A load of fish from the Department of Fish and WildLife last Thursday had the kids doing the happy dance and being so proud to help bring dinner home for the family in between the intermittent ThunderBoomers and rain thru the week.
Ezekiel (8) and Jacob (6) Navar had quite the discussion between themselves on the color of the MiceTail Ezekiel caught his fish on while Jacob got his on ‘a real live worm’ while Henry (5) and Joe (9) Nelligan used an ‘old school stringer’ to make sure none of their fish got away that were caught on NightCrawlers. Victoria (6) Dancses knew the secret on catching fish - NightCrawlers.
Once again, it’s NightCrawlers, PowerBait, Mini-Jigs and MiceTails. There were some anglers that came in during the rain shower Sunday evening and caught all kinds of fish trolling the Red & Gold Thomas Buoyant.
Still lots of moisture in from the monsoonal weather and a few thunderboomers. A big thank you to the USFS who had two firetrucks stationed in the parking lot – just in case! Sure do appreciate it. With the rain from the thunderboomers, the Lake has held pretty steady over the week. We know these storms put a damper on your vacation, but the Forest is in desperate need of the water!
No new sighting of bears or mountain lions – they’re some place (Parcher’s Resort had one last week) just not up here.
All the campgrounds in Bishop Creek Canyon are now open. Remember Bishop Park and The Forks have switched over to 100% reservation thru www.recreation.gov. Four Jeffery, also, has reservable campsites and first-come first-serve spots. First-come first-serve campgrounds are: BitterBrush, Big Trees, Willow and Sabrina Camp. North Lake is a dry camp with no potable water and is first-come first-serve. The BIG bear roaming thru Aspendell knocking over the big green trash bins and prying the lids open is still roaming – please store your food properly and DON’T feed the bears or the deer. Also, watch out for your pets, there a three mountain lions roaming the Aspendell area.
Currently, private boats can launch from dirt. No parking down in the Lake bottom.
Hikers: There is now a bear box at the Sabrina Trail Hiker Parking at the North Lake Road. This has been on my list to get accomplished since 2003 – Thank you Forest Service!!!
ThunderBoomers remain in the forecast for the next few days, but clear out for the mid-week and return again this weekend. Pack your sunscreen, bug juice and your rain gear. You can check the forecast yourself at www.weather.gov – enter Aspendell, CA and scroll down a bit for the temps and forecast up our way.
