Corona Lake produced an amazing 15 trout over the 10-pound mark, and a 19-pound rainbow landed by Mike Riddick, Corona, was the week's best fish.
In addition to the parade of trophy trout, Corona also produced lots of limits of Nebraska Tailwalker rainbows with the fish averaging from one to three pounds and a lot of fish into the six-pound class. Floating dough baits in chartreuse, rainbow, corn, strawberry, white, and lemon-lime were hot, but a lot of trout were also landed on nightcrawlers and wax worms. Anglers were using garlic Nitro Gravy on all of the baits.
Riddick caught the week's best fish on white floating bait fishing from a boat at mid-lake. Jason Benton, Rialto, had a 16-8 rainbow on a trout worm at the dam, while 15-8 rainbows were landed by Dean Sloan, Glendora, Jeremy Avalos, Riverside, and Grant Albee, Whittier. Albee also had an eight-pound trout and he was fishing yellow and white Lip RipperZ plastics from a float tube.
Trout at 15 pounds were caught by Santos Hernandez, Los Angeles, while Wes Wright, Fullerton, had fish that size on two different days.
The final plant of trophy rainbows this season is slated for this week (April 3-4), and there will be 24-hour fishing Friday and Saturday nights, too. This is an added 24-hour event, with 24-hour fish also slated for Easter weekend (April 10-11). This Mt. Lassen Trout Farms plant of trophy rainbows is expected to including fish topping 20 pounds with some approaching 30 pounds. Anglers should also mark the calendar for the special two-for-one event sponsored by Eagle Claw on Saturday, April 18. This is Angler Appreciation Day and with each purchase of a full-price lake admission, your fishing partner gets in free.
Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these passes is $22. Seniors only pay $20, with a special $17 pass sold on Wednesdays. All of these passes have a five-fish limit. For kids 4 to 13, a three-fish pass is just $9. The once-monthly 24-hour passes remain just $60. These passes have a 15-fish limit. For Corona Lake fishing information, call 951-277-4489 or log on at www.fishinglakes.com.
