Lake Elevation: 1668.18
Surface water temp: 57-62 degrees
Lake Hours: 6:45am to 4:30pm
Weather: The weather has been warm up to the 80's with little or no wind.
Fish Plants: DFG has been dropping thousands of pounds of trout. DVL will stock 1000 pounds of Mt. Lassen trout the week of February 2nd.
BASS
Bass have been moving into the shallows leading to effortless fishing for largemouth anglers. There have been reports of anglers releasing upwards of 40 fish a day with big fish ranging from 8-11 pounds. The dams and the inlet tower have been the most reported spots. Drop shot rigged straight tail plastics, Yamamoto Senkos, and small swimbaits have been heavily reported baits. Eddy Gonzalez of Los Angeles reported a 7 pound bass, but gave little detail to where he caught the fish and what bait he was using.
TROUT
DVL has been all about big trout. Powerbait, night crawlers, mini jigs, and troutworms have beet great choices for boaters and shore anglers. Matthew Johnson of Hemet caught a 7.90 pound trout fishing with powerbait in the first cove to the right of the marina. Chris Hugunin Jr. caught a 4.9 pound trout fishing with a mini jig to the left of the marina. Craig Adkinson of Team Phenix caught four trout at 5.0, 7.85, 8.97, and 10.40 pounds fishing with orange Powerworms near the east dam.
STRIPER
There was only one striper report this week. Eddie "Fish Taco" Martinez of Fontana caught a 15 pound striper fishing with a Fish Taco lure.
CATFISH
There were no catfish reported this week, but recently the third cove to the right of the marina, the rock quarry, and the inlet have been hot spots. Mackerel and shrimp have traditionally been the best baits.
PANFISH
There were no panfish reports this week. The panfish bite has been slow and will probably remain that way until surface temps increase in the spring.
