BASS

The Bass bite at DVL was considerably slower than previous weeks, but there were some big fish caught this week. Anglers have been relying on big baits and shaker heads to get bit close to the surface and ice jigs to pull up the deeper fish. The east dam has been a good spot for folks using swimbaits. Shayne Tucker of Cherry Valley caught the biggest reported bass of the week at 7.6 pounds fishing in the marina cove with a Spro BBZ-1. Elliott Lewis caught a 5.77 pound bass fishing from shore with a Huddleston.

TROUT

DVL trout fishing has been fair to good. Shore fisherman and boaters have been catching quality rainbows on Powerbait, mini jigs, nightcrawlers and Powerworms. Near the marina or the east dam have been the best trout spots. Jeremy McFarlane of Hemet caught a 5.41 pound trout on a Kastmaster.

STRIPER

The continuous trout plants and stormy conditions made it a perfect week for striper. Z plugs, BBZs, Rock Hards, and shaker heads have caught some big striper this week. John Banderson of Temecula caught 160 pounds of striper fishing with a Z plug. Robert Ahmanza of colton caught a 21.55 pound striper fishing with a BBZ at the east dam. Richard H. Troncatti II of Murrieta caught a 25.71 pound striper fishing by the east dam with brown powerbait. Ricky Iler of Beaumont caught a 12 pound striper fishing with an AC minnow. Scott Holley of Torrance caught a 16 pound striper fishing with a BBZ near the east dam.

CATFISH

There were very few catfish reported this week. Those who did catch catfish were fishing near the quarry or inlet tower with mackerel.

PANFISH

It was another slow week for panfish due to ever decreasing temperatures. Most anglers have luck with live worms or mini jigs for panfish. The bite will typically remain slow until the spring.
