Bonus plant of Tailwalkers for the 24-hour fishing this weekend at Santa Ana River Lakes

There will be a bonus plant of the popular Nebraska Tailwalkers for the three days of 24-hour fishing at Santa Ana River Lakes over the Martin Luther King holiday weekend.

Anglers will be able to buy 24-hour passes Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights this week because of the Monday holiday. These passes cost $60 and have a 15 fish limit. The best news is that the price includes all night camping at SARL and mom and up to three kids 12 and under get in FREE and get to help dad catch his 15-fish limit, making for a great family camping weekend. The regular $22 Day and Night Fishing sessions are also available if you can't fish one of the 24-hour sessions.

The bonus fish are being planted in addition to the regular stock of fish from Nebraska. With the clearing water conditions, the action should be excellent this weekend.. A good number of Mt. Lassen Trout Farms' trophy rainbows planted last week are still in the Lakes' complex.

The biggest of these rainbows caught over the past week was a huge 21-pounder landed by Frank Bin of La Crescenta (PICTURED ABOVE) while fishing with orange Nitro Dough near the boat dock. This was the largest rainbow caught in Southern California over the past week.

The real news is the amazing number of nice stringers of rainbows coming from the lake. Most anglers are getting at least three fish, and many are taking home full, five-fish limits of rainbows. Most of these stringers have at least a couple of quality trout up to eight pounds.

Al Davenport of Compton caught a 15-4 five-trout limit topped by a 6-12 rainbow. George Perez, Paramount, landed five trout that weighed 20 pounds and his big fish was also a 6 3/4-pounder. Robert Vega or Orange landed a seven-pound rainbow to top off his 17-12 limit, while Bill Nelson, Garden Grove, had a five-fish limit that weighed 21 1/2 pounds, including a six-pounder.

Top baits have been chartreuse and orange Nitro and Power floating dough baits, but inflated nightcrawlers doused with scent continue to take a lot of nice trout. The fish are showing all around the Lakes' complex but the Bubble Hole, LaPalma Point, Levitz' Corner, and Chris Pond are all hot spots.

Santa Ana River Lakes is currently being stocked with Nebraska Tailwalkers in alternating weeks with the Mt. Lassen Trout Farms trophy rainbows. Each Mt. Lassen plant has trophy rainbows from the teens into the 20-plus pound class in the mix. The Tailwalkers are up to eight pounds with a lot in the three to six-pound class, and this week's plant of Tailwalkers was joined by a bonus plant of even more Tailwalkers for the holiday weekend.

Santa Ana River Lakes is normally open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these passes is $22. Seniors only pay $20, with a special $17 pass sold on Wednesdays. All of these passes have a five-fish limit. For kids 4 to 13, a three-fish pass is just $9. The once-monthly 24-hour passes remain just $60. These passes have a 15-fish limit. For Santa Ana River Lakes fishing information, call 714-632-7830 or log on at www.fishinglakes.com
