BASS
Bass have been on the shad schools this week making the bite tough for some, but for those who have been able to match the hatch it was wide open at DVL. Most folks have been using flukes with scrounger heads or underspins to get the shad crazy bass. Some anglers had luck with shad crankbaits and the swimbait bite surged this week due to the trout plant. Elliott Lewis of Beaumont caught a 6.71 pound bass fishing the marina cove with a live crawdad. Ryan Roth of Lakewood caught a 5.9 pound bass trolling a brown trout Rapala. Shane Hansen of Rancho Cucamonga caught a 5 pound bass fishing with a Kastmaster in the marina cove.
TROUT
There were some notable trout catches this week and some folks have been getting limits. Powerworms or mini jigs fished under a water bobber have been the best ways to get trout. Powerbait and nightcrawlers also got their share this week. Jacob Casarez of Hemet got a 4.38 pound trout fishing the marina cove with a nightcrawler. Patrick Gillen of Yucaipa caught a 2.54 pound trout fishing from shore with mini jigs. Steven Smith of Hemet caught a 8.05 pound trout fishing from shore with a fluke. Dave "Tiny" Pierson of Garden Grove caught a 9.96 pound trout fishing with a mini jig near the east dam. Mark Dominguez of Buena Park caught a 9.82 pound trout fishing with mini jigs.
STRIPER
The trout plant brought the stripers back this week. The overcast conditions early in the week were perfect for striper fishing. Topwater lures and swimbaits were the best for the big striper, flukes and scrounger heads were great for those under 10 pounds. Chris Nickerson of Hemet caught a 15.31 pound striper fishing with a BBZ-1 on the east dam. 12 year old Tristan Hicks of Hemet caught a 13.50 pound striper fishing with a swimbait in the marina cove. David Nieman of Temple city caught the biggest striper of the week at 25 pounds fishing with a "Doc Holiday" custom trout plug.
CATFISH
Catfish just keep on biting. Terry "Pontoon" Larson of Huntington Beach returned to DVL again this week to catch another double digit cat weighing 19.5 pounds. He was fishing near the quarry with mackerel. Johnny Moore of rancho Cucamonga caught a 6.5 and 8.34 pound cat fishing from shore with mackerel.
PANFISH
Panfish have been reclusive this week, but there was one crappie caught by 13 year old Caade Egri of La Quinta. He caught the 2.14 pound crappie fishing with a nightcrawler near the saddle dam.
