With Summer not yet here and the Lake front empty, we’re going back to Spring hours until we get boats on the Lake.
Store Hours:    Sunday thru Saturday – 8:00am to 6:00pm
Café Hours:      Sunday thru Saturday – 8:00am to 4:00pm – CLOSED WEDNESDAYS

We sure were hoping to have boats on the water for Memorial Weekend, but alas, with the continuing snow storms, SCE is pretty worried Mother Nature will finally realize she’s running a bit late for warmer temps and start heating things up and the snow would melt all at once. With the Lake down low, they can manage the water better and hopefully prevent some massive flooding in Bishop.

Not much snow on Thursday, but Mother Nature made up for that with cold (really cold) wind. WindChill was down to 12 degrees at one point and wind gusts up to 40mph.  The warmth of the Sun melted the snow on the roof, but once it hit that cold breeze, it was frozen as it hit the ground. Had a couple people slip even after they were told to be careful, thus an early closing on Thursday. Opened a bit late on Friday as Rick headed to town to get deicer. That 12 degrees wasn’t the coldest it got at the Lake – we got down to 8 degrees Sunday with the windchill. Lots of w-i-n-d which was brutal along with the snow made for a chilly day and it appears we’re not done with winter yet.

Had a real nice 2-1/2 pounder caught by local Bill Luke using an inflated NightCrawler – not sure what happened to his picture – operator error (that would be by me) also had Pius Kiefel pull out enough for dinner using RainBow PowerBait. If you’re fishing, might want to try back behind what is normally the Island or if you’re into a bit of a hike, might try out by Cookie’s Point where the back Natural Lake spills into the front Natural Lake. If you’re not sure where that is come on in the building and we’ll show you!

Hikers:
With all the snow, it’s pretty tough hiking at this altitude as most of the trails are under snow. We’ve watched people across from the building hiking or skiing in and they have no idea where the trail is. Also, with all the new snow, Spring avalanches are a bit of a concern. Please check the weather report prior to heading into the backcountry for an overnighter or two. Might want to hike with a buddy. Put a note in your car about where you were headed and when you think you’ll return – yup, I’m a worry wart!

Until I get our cook trained, the Café will close on Wednesdays – need one day to do the shopping and get the laundry done! The Store will be open everyday from 8:00am to 6:00pm till we get boats on the Lake – then we’ll go to Summer hours.

It will be a few weeks before Department of Fish and WildLife get down to the Lake to stock – stay tuned.
