Another beautiful weekend at the Lake after the foot of snow we got on Tuesday – go figure! With the cooler weather, we lost a few feet in the level of the Lake, but with the temps on the rise, it will be back before we know it.
Rick got a few boats on the Lake for the weekend – sure was a wonderful sight to see them puttin’ around. Had some guys out in float tubes – their report was “no matter what you throw at them, you’ll get a fish” - so that would be NightCrawler, PowerBait, Salmon Eggs, Mice Tails, Panther Martins, Jigs and Thomas Buoyants – pretty much everything is working. We are currently on the every other week fish stocking plan thru Memorial Weekend then it’s every week until Labor Day!
Randy Brooks caught a 2-1/4 pounder using a Thomas Buoyant – a fish twice the size broke his line! T.J. Wills landed a 3-1/4 beaut using RainBow PowerBait while Joshua Brady using a NightCrawler pulled in a 2-3/4 RainBow.
The Bald Eagle pair are still entertaining visitors – many times it appears they are putting on a show! And, the Wrens have started building their nest outside the front door.
Southern California Edison put in a new buoy system in front of the dam to keep all you boaters from heading over the spillway – should last a bit longer than the last buoy system.
Looks like temps are on the uprise for a few days. Tuesday, the weather guessers think we’ll hit 70 for the high and the upper 30s for the lows. Then temps go back down the other way – Wednesday we’ll have a bit of a breeze with temps in the low 60s. Thursday, the breezes drop off, but the temps remain in the low 60s for highs and mid 30s for lows. The weekend starts off in upper 50’s then temps drop to the low 50s and low 30s for the balance of the weekend. You can check out the forecast for the week at www.weather.gov (enter Aspendell, CA in the search and scroll down to see the temps).
Important stuff that just stays in the report for a bit:
If you catch a big fish or a limit just to have your picture taken for the webpage and then try and give your fish away – we won’t post your picture, but then again we may post it as ‘WASTER OF A PERFECTLY GOOD FISH TO EAT’! Crimp down your barbs, take a picture on the boat and release it for another day.
If you’re hiking stay safe out there. Remember to leave a note about your destination and approximate return time and a clothing description. And please hike with a buddy!
When using the bug juice or hand sanitizer or sunscreen or lotion or cologne or perfume, try not to get it on your hands – you’ll transfer it to your bait and the fish just don’t like any of that foo-foo stuff. Wash your hands in the stream or Lake to get it off, and then use some fish attractant on your hands.
Make sure you wear some kind of sun protection – the sun and reflection off the water and snow will do a number on your skin and eyeballs!
