Today the weather in the outer waters was windy, and the clear target was the sheltered waters of the Gaviota Coast's reds and hefty coppers. So westward we went with our 26 lucky anglers.
The day started with fast fishing on smaller chillies, and we left them for another day. As we worked our way West, spot to spot the reds and big coppers really got with the program. By 12:30 the bags were stuffed, everyone had a limit!
With lots of time to spare, we headed over to a bass spot for a few minutes tossing half-pound sardines at the weeds. Not likely to work, right? Wrong! They went for it! Calico came up crashing. Our Rockfish ready anglers managed to hook a dozen or so, and even managed to wrangle at least 7 from the weeds. Needless to say, none were short.
After 30 minutes in the kelp we picked up, and now we're slowly idling home while Raffa and Josh hustle to get all those cods cut, filleted. It's gorgeous here, but I can see the combers rolling along just a few miles offshore.
Final fish count for our 26 anglers is 182 red, 52 fat coppers and 26 other cods, plus a ling and 7 burly calico bass.
The Coral Sea is 3/4 day Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday with very light loads as of now!  Same for the Stardust 1/2 day trips. Please make reservations ahead of time 805-963-3564 or from our website.
