This Wednesday was the first trout plant of the year with 3,300 pounds of nice fat Nebraska tail walkers. The smallest trout they planted was 4lbs and so far the largest caught from shore or boat was over 11.5Ib! Right after being planted a few fish started to bite but the majority stayed inside the #5 launch ramp cove and than moved into deeper water the next day and catching from shore slowed down greatly. What has been working well while they were close to shore was the use of chrome and blue and the rainbow kastmasters and garlic and corn yellow power bait. Trolling now is the best way to grab some good size trout while using rapala cd series black/gold and rainbow trout color. Best area for trotting is from johnson bay along the cliffs to the point near the dam to clarks canyon. Another good spot would be from bobcat canyon to cachuma bay along the middle river channel. Also this week crappie are still hitting but the bite as slowed a little bit, and bass are starting to pick up along with some catfish being caught. Call the marina for more details.
