Green Valley Lake - Green Valley Lake, CA

Lake Information
Fish Species: | Rainbow Trout, Lightning Trout |
Green Valley Lake is a high-elevation trout fishery located in the San Bernardino Mountains at approximately 7,000 feet above sea level. This 9-acre lake is stocked with rainbow trout regularly from late April through mid-October by both the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and private hatcheries. These consistent stockings, combined with cool water temperatures year-round, make it one of Southern California’s most productive summer trout fisheries.
Rainbow trout in the 1- to 2-pound range are the norm, with trophy fish reaching 5 pounds or more frequently stocked. Anglers have success using PowerBait, nightcrawlers, and salmon eggs near the bottom or on sliding rigs. Lure anglers favor Kastmasters and Rooster Tails. Fly fishing is also popular and effective, especially from float tubes with dry flies and nymphs during morning and evening hatches.
Seasonal catfish are stocked during the summer, and panfish species such as bluegill and redear sunfish offer additional warmwater fishing opportunities. Catfish are best targeted in the evenings with cut bait, while sunfish respond to worms or jigs fished near shore.
Boating is limited to rowboats, kayaks, and float tubes; no gas motors are allowed. A California fishing license is required. With its excellent trout program, beautiful setting, and small-town charm, Green Valley Lake remains a top-tier alpine fishing destination.
