Corona Lake's trout action has been excellent this past week with 11 rainbow trout over 10 pounds reported. The top fish was a 20 1/2-pound rainbow caught by John Wilde, Riverside, while fishing a nightcrawler at the dam.??
The parade of trophy trout will just grow with this week's plant of rainbows topping the 20-pound mark. The Mt. Lassen Trout Farms fish will be the biggest planted so far this season.?ĮOther big fish landed this past week include an 18-pound rainbow landed by Sonny Stobaugh, Perris, on chartreuse Nitro Bait, and a 15 1/2-pounder caught by Tim Davies, Riverside, on rainbow Nitro. Both these bruisers were taken at the dam.
??The best action has continued to be in the deeper water at the dam and off the far side of the lake, with boat anglers able to reach and fish the deep water more effectively than shore fishermen. Nitro Baits in white, chartreuse, and rainbow along with nightcrawlers doused with Nitro Gravy have been the best baits. A few fish are also showing on trolled Kastmasters or small trout jigs.
The catfish bite has also continued to be pretty fair for the few anglers fishing the cats. In fact, a 25-pound catfish was landed by John Randy, Corona, while fishing with mackerel from a boat.
Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these $20 passes has a five-fish limit. The popular 24-hour fishing passes are offered on Friday and Saturday.
