Happy to announce that we received our second trout plant of the season on 4/24/15. Limits of these trout have been reported on various baits including: night crawlers, power bait, kastmasters, panther martins, and thomas buoyants. The area near the santa ana launch ramp has been the most productive.

Bass bite was excellent leading up to the most recent cold front. Since then the bite has been a little bit tougher. Most of the bass have finished up their spawn cycle and have turned their attention to feeding on the live shad. The candy bait has been easily netted in the early morning hours. Anglers offering up the artificial variety have been doing well on drop shot plastic worms, crank baits, under spins, and spinnerbaits. Notable catches of the week:

Jerry Richmond - Ventura - 6.75lb bass - shad
Armond Vartanian - ventura - 8 lb bass - night crawler
Noah Skultety - thousand oaks - 7 crappie for a total of 15 lbs - shad
Kai Fowler - ventura - 5 trout = 8 lbs - powerbait/kastmaster
Abbie Westberry - ojai - 7.25 lb bass - shad

Most of these fishes are still around 60 feet or deeper and it is a morning bite, the afternoon bite has been way more difficult. The large mouth bite has been decent at both the upper and lower lakes on plastics and night crawlers. The...... Read More
