The last SPORTFISHINGREPORT.COM trip aboard the Pacific Dawn out of Capt Hook's Sportfishing was a great day, Capt Pat Cavanaugh and his crew put on on some great spots to end the year. We had a mix several SFR regulars and new folks to SFR Charters. We headed out to San Miguel Island with a short stop to try and make some squid, but they were a no show. We arrived at San Miguel and waited for grey light and started fishing, it was only a few minutes before we were swinging and reeling in with fish on. Michelle Dugan on her first ever deepsea fishing trip was one of the first to put a fish on a deck, a smaller Blue Bass which we convinced her to release. We had a quick showing of Whitefish, they left as quick as they showed up. We then headed out to deeper water between San Miguel and Santa Rosa Islands and started bringing in some quality Chuckleheads and Red Rockfish. After a short move we were into Lingcod heaven, we brought up quite a few shorts and several "legals". Michelle Dugan showed us all how it's done and brought up two legal lings on one drop, talk about beginners luck. We filled our bags with limits of rockfish and a few lingcod and whitefish. The jackpot for the trip was a 16lb Lingcod, an honorable mention went to the 14lb sheephead. It was a great day and I enjoyed sharing the rail with you all and look forward to see you all on some of next years SFR Charters. I would like to thank Capt Pat and his crew (Mike, Opie, Blue and 2nd Capt Apollo) for a great day of fishing.
