This isn't a story about the one that got away, but rather the one that should have been weighed. Isiah Taylor from Oceanside was fishing with mackerel off the fishing pier in Boulder Bay when the big kitty hit. With six pound test on, Isiah new he had to take his time, after a twenty minute fight, he landed a huge blue catfish. The blue would have probably broken the lake record of 22.8 pounds. Unfortunately, Isiah did not have the catfish weighed in, but he did get a photo before he released it. Fortunately, for the blue, it will live another day and grow even bigger.
It was also a good week for trout fishing on Big Bear Lake. Curt Dills, Fish Big Bear Charter, reported limits on several trips with some fish going two to three pounds. Derek and Taylor Clark from Newport Beach got their limit trolling fire tiger and gold/black Rapala Husky Jerks and Needlefish in shiny copper watermelon and pearl bikini. With all the fish coming on two to two and half colors of leadcore line.
Look for the trouting to stay strong as water temperatures start to cool and oxygen levels stay strong. With TroutfesT coming in October the conditions for a great tournament are starting to come together.

Big Bear LakeWhen the latest limnological report came out, local guides and anglers gasped! A week ago the concern was over rising water temperatures and how long before it is too high for the trout to survive, now the question is, are the oxygen levels at the dam dropping to a dangerous low level? Well, good news on both counts. Water temps in the western third of the lake have dropped to 67 degrees and the low oxygen readings were incorrect due...... Read More
