Our recent SFR open party charter aboard the Eldorado was a huge success with 78 yellowtail, 3 Bluefin tuna, 2 yellowfin tuna and 4 dorado hitting the decks for the lucky 39 anglers aboard. Water conditions are looking great and quality fish are in local waters so Captain TJ Shick decided that fishing offshore would give anglers the best chance at hooking a hungry fish. We disembarked from Long Beach Berth 55 at 10 pm and set course for one of our local offshore banks with a full tank of squid and anchovies. Round one started soon after the trolling feathers hit the water and the tuna came out swinging hard and ready for battle. The tuna wanted nothing to do with the gaff as early casualties gave round one to the Bluefin. The shortfins won many of the early battles as multiple hookups didn't find their way to the deck. The anglers did land a few blows with a number of quality Bluefin hitting the decks including one nice 30 lb plus fish. We shook off the heartbreaks and kept at it, landing a few more tuna before the school drifted away. We started the search again, setting the trollers back out and scanning the horizon for kelp paddies. The next round started with us on a kelp paddy loaded with hungry yellowtail and this time we were ready for them. Multiple hookups and hard pulling resulted in a steady stream of 7-12 lb yellowtail hitting the deck. We spent the rest of the day searching out paddies for a mix of yellowtail and a few quality dorado in the mix to keep things interesting. Every angler and crew member onboard fished and worked hard and by the end of the day we had put a respectable 80+ mixed fish aboard. Just a great day on the water!
