Lake Hours: 6:00 am - 7:00 pm ; effective Wednesday August 15th open 6:00 am - 6:30 pm.

Weather:??Temperatures have been in the 90's to 100's with mild winds in the afternoon.

Bass: ??Bass fishing at DVL has improved dramatically. There have been reports of anglers getting nearly 50 fish a day ranging from 3-9 pounds.??The dropshot is still king at DVL. Anglers have been working the points with Carolina rigged 7-9" worms leading to heafty limits. The topwater bite in the morning or during cloudcover has proved successful. There have also been steady reports of bass falling for shad pattern flukes combined with underspins. Live shad remains the top bait for bass anglers, but??accessible shad have been sparse. DFG??permits the use of one scoop of live shad from a regulation dip net. Reported depths and locations have varied tremendously. Catches have been between 15 and 40 feet. ??The rock quarry, the islands on the north shore and around the saddle dam has been the most reported bass spots. Jeff Travis of Placentia got his two biggest bass at 6.26 and 5.58 pounds fishing with a brown plastic worm fishing the north shore islands between 25 and 40 feet. Eleven year old Anna Sawyer of Rancho Cucamonga 4.83 pound bass fishing with live shad near the saddle dam. Kenmac of Hemet got a 7.5 pound bass on a plastic worm fishing in his secret spot. Art Hill, Casey Sartori and Mitch Pierce of San Clemente caught 43 bass at varied locations. They were fishing with Bass Snax plastic worms between 25 and 45 feet.

Trout: ??The trout bite at DVL is holding strong. Reports have trout being caught from 30- 60 feet along the west dam, near the inlet tower and around restroom 3. Fishing from a boat is mandatory for those seeking trout. Trolling or drift fishing have been the most effective methods. For those anglers who are not equipped with downriggers, lead core line or diving planes are comparable methods for achieving specific depths while trolling. Hot lures for trolling are Needlefish,?? TD minnow lures, Berkley Frenzy lures, and shad pattern Rapalas. Trailing a night crawler behind flashers or dodgers has been a lethal combination. When drifting, light line is imperative. It is advised not to use any more than 4# test line.

Striper: There was one striper report this week. ??Striper fishing seems to be at it's best either early in the morning, in the late afternoon, or on overcast days. Fishing near the inlet tower is advised for those seeking striper. Trout swim baits, Plugs or stick baits have been the most reported lures for striper. Michael Lupo of Carmel Valley got a 11.75 pound striper on a spoon near the saddle dam.

Catfish:????Catfish has been the choice species at DVL.??The top spots have been near the wave attenuator, the third cove of shoreline fishing, and near the rock quarry. The most reported baits have been Anchovies, mackerel, and raw shrimp. Most catfish have been found on the bottom in 10 - 20 feet of water. Shore angler Frederick Woods Jr. got a 6.5 pound cat in the first cove. He was fishing at 35 feet with anchovies. Melvin Hyde of Hemet pulled 12.3 pound, shrimp hungry, channel catfish from 20 feet on the south side of the wave attenuator. Jeff Travis of Placentia got a 9.85 pound catfish on a north shore island fishing with nightcrawlers.

Panfish: It was a great week for panfish. The bluegill have been bountiful. The most reported spots for bluegill have been near the dams. Crappie are near the wave attenuator, the rock pile at the mouth of Rawson cove, or near the eucalyptus trees in the south east corner. Live worms or shad have been the best bet for panfish.
