Trout fishing came to life last week at Cachuma Lake, with many fish weighing in at 6 lbs. The 'bows are being found at 20' to 30' of water near the dam and the river channel. Trolling dodger/crawler combos as well as drifting a worm have been the most productive techniques. Shore anglers also got into the action at E Point using nightcrawlers and PowerBait.
Bass fishing has been good on drop shots, jigs, and small swimbaits all over the lake. The Catfish bite has slowed a bit. Last known hot spots were Cachuma Bay and Johnsons' Bay. Cut mackerel was the best bait to use.
Crappie have moved into as little as 3' of water. Most are being taken while fishing for Bass. Bow fishing has been good early and late in the narrows and at chalk cliffs. The mid-day hours have the bugle mouths along the shallower shorelines.

Fishing was slow to good this week at Lake Cachuma
Cachuma LakeTrout fishing slowed probably due to summer like conditions which caused the temperatures in the lake to raise 3 to 4 degrees. There were some good catches made on foggy mornings by trolling 3 to 5 colors of leadcore with dodger/crawler combos. The best lures for trolling have been flat lining Rapalas and Kastmasters. Shore anglers had mixed results on PowerBait and inflated worms at Marina Point and E Point. The Bass bite has been better almost every day for either...... Read More
