Rainbow Trout: Alot of trout have moved into deeper water due to warming water tempretures. Large schools of trout are holding up and chewing from the big island to the dam with the bubble holes being the HOT spots. Power Bait and night crawlers are both working well for bait. Fisherman trolling the SC Shinners in pink or silver/black have been scoring limits. Fly fisherman did well last week as the water visability cleared up in the flats after the rain. Bead head midges in silver and grey were working best in 10' of water.
BIG trout of the week goes to Dave Thomas of Culver City with a 7 lb'er that hit rainbow Power Bait off the shoreline in Zone 3. Oarius Gleason of Long Beach topped off his 5 fish limit with a 6 lb 09 oz trout that was caught on a Power mouse off the shoreline in Zone 2. Dennis Johnson of Whittier weighed in a 6 lb 08 oz soaking a pink/white mouse in Zone 1 off the shoreline. Suse Wamasa of Huntington Beach topped off his 5 fish limit with a 6 lb trout that was caught on Salmon Power Bait in deep water by the bubble hole off a boat. Gilbert Tam of Irvine landed a 6 lb trout soaking rainbow Power Bait in Zone 1 off the shoreline. Leslie Gosse of Baldwin Park caught a 5 lb trout on rainbow Power Bait at 3 pipes off a boat. Kevin Ritze of Fountain Valley topped off his 5 fish limit with a 5 lb trout on a night crawler on the shoreline in Zone 1.
Another stocking of trout will be planted this week....with warming water tempretures, it could be the last stocking of trout this season!
BASS: Another awesome week for fisherman targeting bass. Plastic worms and crawdads tossed tight to cover have been working well. Purple, green and brown have been the best colors. Bass are starting to bed EVERYWHERE! The big island and the entire backside of the lake has been on fire. Most bass are averaging 2 lb to 4 lbs in size with good numbers of fish 5 lb's and over being reported. BIG bass of the week goes to Levi Teal of Newport Beach that caught and released a 8 lb female using a purple/green Robo craw texas rigged on the backside of the lake by 3 pipes. Dozens of bass in the 5 lb to 6 lb class reported.
BLACK CRAPPIE: Have been caught to 3 lbs in size are also on the chew. Fisherman trolling pink SC Shinners from the launch ramp to the boat dock are scoring big numbers of slabs!
