Bass fishing was on a day to day basis this past week, but even on the slower days limits were possible with reaction baits or with bottom bumping techniques. Shad are still being spotted on or near the surface at the East end of the lake. This has been producing some early top water action.
The Catfish bite has tapered off a little more than last week, but a few of the larger grade kitties did come out of Sweetwater on cut mackerel.
There were some decent Crappie action this past week, as slabs to 2 lbs. were reported in at the marina. Small tubes and mini jigs tipped with mealworms were the best offering for the panfish.
Trout fishing has ground to a halt with only a few fish coming out of the dam area on drifted crawlers. Bow fishing for carp is still good in the early morning hours. Best locations are at Clark's and the marker buoys on the north west end of the dam.

The Bass bite has improved because of the hotter weather at Lake Cachuma, Catfish bite slowed
Cachuma LakeThe hot weather has helped the previously slow bass bite, as most anglers were able to scratch out limits. Both largies and smallies were taking a variety of baits, from top water to jigs at 20'. Catfish did seem to taper off just a bit, but overall action was good on cut mackerel just about anywhere on the lake. There were a few crappie and bluegill reportedly caught in the narrows on mini jigs tipped with meal worms. Trout fishing has been...... Read More
