After the big Alpers plant and another DFG plant last week, fishing picked up considerably, especially on the big fish. Lure tossers scored on Red and Gold Thomas Bouyants and gold Kastmasters while bait dunkers continued to do well on Rainbow Powerbait or Nightcrawlers fished off the bottom with a 2-3ft leader. Ron Adams of Lake Forest, CA managed to boat two Alpers on Saturday afternoon fishing nightcrawlers at South Lake. His first fish weighed in at 4lbs 8oz and the other at 4lbs 11oz. The recently stocked Browns also made a showing, mostly on nightcrawlers or kastmasters. Gary Smith of Newbury Park, CA caught a gorgeous 2lb brown using a Kastmaster. The plastic bite warmed up as well with some nice fish being caught on Berkley Powerworms or Lip Ripperz. Wade Gervais of Canby, OR nailed lunker 5lb Alper on a chartreuse powerworm.
