Ronson "Catmando" Smothers of Los Angeles strained to lift the monster 47-pound, 8-ounce blue catfish he caught at Irvine Lake this week on a chunk of mackerel. Smothers also caught a smaller 32-6 specimen on the same day, and both of the big whiskerfish were released back into the lake.

Lake Oroville Tournament The largest locally-run bass tournament of the year on Lake Oroville is the "Sharon Hibdon Memorial Tournament", named for the longtime Chico Bass Club secretary who recently passed away. This year's event will take place at the Spillway Launch on Sunday, April 29. Entry fee is $80 per two person team, and includes a barbecue dinner and big fish option.
