Thunderstorms kept a lot of people off the lake this weekend, but fishing wasn't bad for those that stuck it out. Bass were caught all over the lake, and are down around 20 ft. Texas rigged plastics and jigs are getting most of the fish, as well as top water action early. Catfish are still being taken from shallow coves with creek channels, such as Cachuma, Santa Cruz and Harveys. Mackerel has been the bait of choice for the wiskerfish. Crappie are back in the narrows and around the island, and mini-jigs with Crappie nibbles accounting for most of the slabs. Trout fishing still on the slow side, sown rigging needlefish to 50' has worked for a few lucky anglers. Look for more trout plants next month. Carp and redear have been very slow. Bluegill still around the tules in just about every cove.
