Both the catfish and tilapia action has been very good at Corona Lake thanks to the full moon and heavy plants of both species this past week. Most of the cats are 1 1/2 to three pounds, and the tilapia are averaging between one and two pounds. The photo shows Carlos and Salena from Rialto with 17 Catfish.

While broodstock catfish were planted Friday last week, the biggest catfish reported was a 4 1/4-pounder landed by Jim Davis, Murrieta, on a Shad Rap near the boat dock. Broodstock cats will be part of the weekly plants that go into Corona Lake on Tuesdays and Fridays each week now.

Joe Roope and Jim Bland, both Hemet, had nine catfish for a 20-8 total, and their big fish was a four-pounder. The pair were fishing nightcrawlers and shrimp at the dam. Paul and Alex Tripp, both Torrance, had nine cats for 19 pounds total, all on nightcrawlers from a boat. Nathan Drake, Calimesa, had five catfish for eight pounds on nightcrawlers from a float tube. Debbie Hayes, Fontana, landed four tilapia on nightcrawlers up to 1 1/4 pounds.

The catfish are showing all around the lake, but the flooded trees and edges of the brush and weed beds have been best. The marshmallow-meal worm or marshmallow-nightcrawler combo, shrimp, and mackerel have all been good baits. The tilapia are in shallow water and showing best on bobber-suspended nightcrawlers pieces.
