Bass
DVL saw much improvement in the bass bite this week. Early on there were some great reports of largemouth biting the drop shot in 35-40 feet of water, but as the frigid front moved in reports revealed they were pushed back down to 60 and 80 foot depths. There is also a decent swimbait bite on BBZ, Lunker Punkers, Shellcrackers. The national Bass West tournament this week yielded great results weighing in over 425 pounds of fish. The winning bag went to Willie Waller and Dale Wentz who had a total of 21.92 for five fish their biggest bass a whopping 9.46 pounds.
Trout
Weather has left the shore looking bear; only dedicated anglers have been willing to forego their comfort for DVL trout. None the less, and sanglers continue to fill stringers. The best trout spots have been near the marina and along the shoreline fishing area, but there have been scattered reports of fish being caught on the east dam. Most reports have trout between 10-25 feet. Powerbait in green or rainbow has been a mainstay for trout anglers. nightcrawlers with the addition of scents or Powereggs was also a deadly method. Kastmasters and mini jigs were the lures that worked the best for trout. 12 year old Ulysses Orozco of San Jacinto caught a 5 pound trout fishing from shore with powerbait. 4 year old Riley Corlew caught a 6.6 pound trout fishing from shore with jigs. 6 year old Gavin caught a 2 pound trout fishing with nightcrawlers. 5 year old Brian Wilson of Hemet caught a 3 pound trout fishing with Powerbait. 9 year old Jacob caught a 1 pound trout fishing from shore with a bucktail jig. 3 year old Chance Nicholas 1.5 pound trout fishing from shore with a streamer fly. Carlos Marquez caught a 10.28 pound trout fishing from shore with a gulp worm. Frank Tomayo of Hemet caught a 7.89 pound trout fishing from shore with Powerbait. Zadrian Hernandez of Moreno Valley caught a 8.98 pound trout limit fishing from shore with mini jigs.
Striper
This week's DFG plant did little to spur the striper. LA sliders, Lunker Punkers, Z Plugs, and Huddlestons are the most reported baits as of late. Robby Taggart of Quail Valley caught a 13.23 pound striper fishing from shore with a plug. 7 year old Tristen Lang caught a 5 pound striper fishing with a swimbait. Ernesto of Riverside caught an 8.02 pound striper fishing with a Lunker Punker Mathew Rivera caught an 8.70 pound striper fishing from shore with a Huddleston. Corey Smith caught a 14.47 pound striper fishing with an LA slider.
Catfish
Not many cats were caught this week. The north corner of the east dam and the third of the west shore are some recommended spots. Most cut baits, nightcrawlers, or Hog Wild will catch the cats.
Panfish
Panfish has been slow there were some reports of incidental catches along the dams as deep as 85 feet.
