Quoting several bass fishermen this past week, the bass "fishing was phenomenal!" Several fishermen reported catching up to 27 nice size bass all in one day. Most of the fish were averaging around the 3lbs mark, but many in the 5-6 lbs range are showing up as well. Dark plastics fished along the bottom are still producing the most and the biggest fish. East End and the South Shore are the hot spots for the bass, and those walking the shore are finding some decent luck along the shore from Marina Point to Social Security Point. I must take this chance to thank all of those fishermen who are practicing catch and release, most of those I talked to have released their fish for future generations. Striper are still in the mix, but striper action is spotty at best. Some come in with their limit, and others spend all day fishing but ending up empty handed. Chicken liver seems to be the best bait, but the best location is a toss up between the Dam and Inlet as well as the East End. More bluegills are showing up as well. South Shore seems to be the best area, but the Ramp #2 area are also producing some number. Still and odd trout or two near Ramp #2 in the morning and evening, but most active trout fishing is taking place in the East End with worms being top bait. Cats still seem a bit shy yet, but a few starting to be reported near the Inlet.

The following are the fish ratings:
Bass: Excellent with an average size of 3 lbs.
Bluegill: Good
Striper: Fair with an average size of 1.5 lbs.
Trout: Fair

Bass fishing is king here at lake Skinner. While the bass fishing is best by boat, shore anglers are having good luck on the spawning bass as well. The hot spots are the East End and the South Shore. Dark plastic fished slowly along the bottom still seem to be the hot ticket. Just a friendly reminder that it has taken years for the bass fishing to become good again here at Lake Skinner, so please practice catch and release...... Read More

At the close of last week, the bass fishing was great and hopes were high that it would only get better, however the drop in the water level at the lake would prove sufficient to dash our hopes. Bass scattered and headed into deeper water and were very shy for most of the week, but as we close this week, the bass have begun to bite once again. Most of the fishermen said that they found most of the...... Read More
