BASS
The recent storms discouraged anglers but did not slow the bite. Bass anglers had the best luck with 5" Senkos in watermelon or green pumpkin. The drop shot was still hot with 4" worms in green or purple. The Carolina rig worked great with brushogs and lizards in the watermelon variety. Tube jigs also picked up some nice bass this week. The swimbait bite was slightly productive. Z -Plugs, LA Sliders, Spro BBZ, and Huddlestons were the most reported lures with most of those catches occurring within the first 15 feet of water. Swimbait fisherman were focusing on the dams and near the marina, mainly in the morning, while worm and jig fisherman were sight fishing the coves 5 - 15 feet down. The reports were varying tremendously from day to day most successful anglers were on the move, not remaining in one spot too long. Marshall Neal of Hemet caught a 7 pound bass fishing with plastics near the east dam. Bob Stevens caught a 10.2 pound bass fishing in Rawson cove with a 9" worm. Mike Cochran caught a10 pound bass fishing the north shore with a Lizard. The tournament scene was hot this week the winners of the ABA tournament was Rick Grover & Kyle Grover with a 24.6 pound limit. The WON bass tournament had even heavier weights with Mike Phua and Mike Lillibridge getting the top prize of $2,930 weighing in a 27.79 pound bag.

TROUT
Unfavorable weather early in the week left the shore bear; only dedicated anglers were been willing to forego their comfort for DVL trout. None the less, sanglers continue to fill stringers while boat anglers have been lacking limits. The best trout spots have been near the marina and along the shoreline fishing area, but there have been scattered reports of fish being caught on the east dam, the west dam, and on the north shore. Most reports have trout between 10-25 feet, but boaters have reported fish as deep as 40 feet. Powerbait in green or rainbow has been a mainstay for trout anglers. Inflated night crawlers fished off the bottom with the addition of scents or Powereggs was also a deadly method. Panther Martins spinners and mini jigs were the lures that worked the best for trout. Frederick Hutchison of Grants Pass, OR caught two trout at 5.05 and 4.85 pounds drop shotting in the marina cove. Eight year old Taylor Close of Rialto caught a 5.25 pound trout fishing a wacky worm. Joel Adams of San Bernardino caught a 6.95 pound trout fishing from shore with a Powerworm. Jeff Alley of Palm desert caught a 6 pound trout fishing the north shore with a plastic lizard. Cody Nelson of Hemet caught a 4.91 pound trout fishing in the marina cove with a nightcrawler.

STRIPER
Overcast skies early in the week made perfect conditions for stripers. Floating or slow sink swimbaits remain the best method for striper anglers. The inlet tower and the east dam were the most frequently reported striper spots. Garit Lesicko of Temecula caught a 16 pound striper fishing near the east dam with a swimbait. Marshall Neal of Hemet caught two striper at 13.98 and 21.6 pounds fishing with a swimbait near the east dam. Steven Ekema of Hemet caught a 20.50 pound striper fishing near the east dam with a swimbait.

CATFISH
The cats are coming out. Rawson cove and the wave attenuator are great to drop some bait. Most cut baits, nightcrawlers, or Hog Wild will catch the cats. The biggest cat of the week was caught by Wesley Meyer of San Bernardino who hooked a 38.83 pound blue fishing with a Senko.

PANFISH
The panfish reports were on the rise this week with crappie being the The bite will improve as the water gets warmer. Rawson cove and the saddle dam were the most reported spots Mini jigs, and live worms are the most common panfish baits.

LAKE RECORDS
Lake Record Striper: January 3, 2010: Jason Walsh of Temecula busted the long standing DVL striper record with a 30.87 pound record. Jason was fishing with a custom plug on the mid lake point.

Lake Record Largemouth Bass: March 16th 2007: Mike Long of Poway, 16.43 lb bass. He was fishing the west dam with a 6" "Real Trout" Rago swimbait.

Lake Record Crappie: Jesse Mena of Hemet caught a 3.47 pound crappie fishing near the saddle dam with a white crappie jig.

Lake Record Red Ear Sunfish: Michael Wolf of Redondo Beach caught a 3.45 pound bluegill fishing with trout Krilla near the rock quarry.

Lake Record Catfish: October 29, 2008: Jason Walsh, of Temecula, caught a 42.56 pound catfish using an LA Slider near the inlet tower.

Lake Record Trout: March 14, 2009: Andrew Aralos of Hemet caught a 15.45 pound trout. He was fishing with Powerbait near the east dam.
