Castaic Lake fell to 83 percent of capacity and water temperatures dropped into the low sixties. Windy and wet weather kept a lot of boats off the water. However, anglers still reported decent fishing for both bass and striper. Large and smallmouth went after small swimbaits and A-rigs near shad schools. They also took drop shot and Ned rigs in deeper water on main lake points and along rocky shorelines. Striped bass fell for A-rigs, trolled flies, and topwater lures. The boil activity has slowed but keep a walking topwater bait handy. Trolling has been an effective way to entice bites form striped bass. Catfish anglers used dip bait and chicken liver along the dam and in the coves east of the marina to land whisker fish.
