If the April 1st wide open White Seabass bite didn't inspire you to get out and go fish, I'm not sure what will. I decided to give it a shot, and what better way than to jump on the Pacific Dawn with Captain Pat Cavanaugh and Crew. We made our way to Eagle's Nest and tried hard to make squid. Unfortunately, there weren't too many squirters around, but we had a few left over in the Pac Dawn's bait tank. As we began fishing, there were a few nibbles and a couple teaser dunks. We hooked up on a small bonito and a couple mud marlins. Then, Nestor Murillo's Candy on a dropper loop gets slammed! As the line from his reel began peeling off, we new this could be it. The head shakes gave us high hopes of being the right kind!
Sure enough, a beautiful 24 pound White Seabass comes to color, as Dustin reaches for the gaff and calmly brings it over the rail. Have you ever heard the sound of a WSB hitting the deck? It's a awesome sound! We gave Nestor a few high fives as he rejuvenated us with the energy, adrenaline, and focus that we needed. We spent the rest of the morning giving the Seabass a try and Captain Cavanaugh gave it a solid effort! JJ from the Apollo and Joe from the Mirage were also out there putting in work. Unfortunately, there was no love, however we did hit one nice beauty so it was time to go load up on some fish tacos! We tugged on nice grade Chuckleheads, Reds, Blues, Whitefish and Salmon Grouper. There were even a few Lings in the mix, but were mostly short, with the exception of Harold Guy's keeper. Deckhands Mike and Opie were on deck and quick to take your catch and help out on a few tangles while Shane from the Galley made one of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had. He also created an awesome clam chowder from scratch and topped it off with burgers and fish tacos for the hungry anglers. The wind made for some tough conditions while we were Rockfishing, but that didn't stop Pat from putting us on the fish and making limits. The Crew was awesome as usual and the memories were unforgettable. It was another great day fishing with Pat Cavanaugh and Crew aboard the Pacific Dawn. If you haven't experienced fishing with Pat yet, he's been running some open Party Trips out of Captain Hook's Sportfishing and we still have a few openings on our SFR Charter coming up. Don't miss out, give them a call today! 805-382-1612. See you on the water and tight lines! For copies of photos, you know what to do ??? [email protected]
