We use a four-level system: Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor or Slow
Excellent = The bite is wide open, everyone is catching lots of fish, even the average angler.
Good = Experienced anglers are catching lots of fish and even average or no-so-accomplished anglers are getting at least a few fish.
Fair = The bite is very tough for average anglers, but they might be catching an occasional fish. Good anglers are getting a few fish.
Slow or Poor = The action is tough for everyone with few fish being caught by even experienced anglers.
Important Information
Mackerel and shrimp best for catfish. Light colored mini jigs best for bluegill. Dark plastics best for large mouth.
East and west shores of Pelican Lake, near the boathouse of Horseshoe Lake best for catfish. The outlet of Pelican Lake and the inlet of Horseshoe lake best for bluegill, fish from the walking bridges. Rent a boat and fish the deep cove of the island at Horseshoe Lake for Bass.
We can't use reports that don't have first and last names and hometowns. "Big Fish Bob" doesn't cut it. "Bob "Big Fish" Johnson, Hemet," will make it. Try to just include the best catches each week. We can't run 30 names, but if the bite is very good and a lot of quality fish or good stringers were caught, we will run five or six names.
If the catch is a lake record, please try to get the angler's phone number so we can follow-up with a call to do a more extensive story on the catch.
Digital Photos
We can always use digital photos on our web sites and welcome having those included with your report. We also forward photos to daily newspapers if the angler lives within that paper's circulation area.
