BASS
The bass bite is on fire! Many anglers reported upwards of 30 fish. Throw swimbaits, crankbaits and jerkbaits in the morning for big bass and spinner baits in the afternoon. Like fishing plastics? Texas rigged worms in oxblood, prism shad, and morning dawn, fat Ikas in watermelon or green pumpkin, and Carolina rigged brush hogs are your best bet. Fish the points or try trolling jointed Rapalas along the dams. Jesikah Mtna of Hemet caught a 6.69 pound bass fishing with a swimbait. Jim Mehan of Winchester released 18 fish trolling a Rapala along the dams. Robert Twellman of Cypress caught a 5.94 pound bass fishing with plastic worms on the west dam. Jorge Cuevos of Winchester caught a 6.4 pound bass fishing with a Roboworm near the east dam. Richard R. Laughery caught a 10.46 pound bass fishing with a spinnerbait on the west side of shore fishing.
TROUT
Earth-to-trout! The trout bite remains slow and only sporadic catches were reported this week. Give it a go! Try trolling or drifting nightcrawlers on the dams between 20 and 50 feet. The use of flashers has been a big help. Anglers reported using the Seps Pro flashers in the willow leaf pattern with a spoon trailer.
STRIPER
Anglers reported a few decent striper catches this week on swimbaits. The most reported spots have been Rawson cove, near the rock quarry, and by restroom 2.
CATFISH
Craving catfish? Anglers reported consistent cat catches from shore and boats. Esau Aneulo of Wittier caught a 5 pound catfish fishing the west shore line with nightcrawlers. Soak some Mackerel and anchovies or try shrimp and chicken liver. Some hot spots include the saddle dam, Rawson cove, near the rock quarry, and along the east dam.
PANFISH
The panfish bite is wide open! Anglers reported mass quantities of blue gill, red ear sunfish, and crappie. Try mini jigs, mealworms, or nightcrawlers along the dams, and let the kiddies play with the smaller fish on the surface while you go for the meatier fish in 10 to 15ft of water.
