Trout Bite Has Been Holding Strong

The trout bite has been holding strong, but warmer temps have been driving them closer to the dam, and the water’s poor oxygen content has been forcing them up to the top of the water column. Shoreline anglers have been having their best luck between the S.S. Relief and the buoy line with slip bobbers set between 3 and 5 feet. Bait choice does not seem to matter much; Powerbait, Zeke’s, salmon eggs, Mice Tails, marshmallows, and night crawlers have all been getting the job done.

Trolling with crawlers or the usual lures has been effective as well. The trick is to stay near the 5 mph buoys. Depth varies from 3-5 feet near the dam to 10-15 feet near Boulder Bay due to improved oxygen levels further east.

The bass are starting to perk up after their spawn, and they’re hitting a number of different techniques including everybody’s favorite: top water! Frogs, poppers, buzzbaits, Whopper Ploppers and anything else that causes a commotion on the surface can elicit aggressive blow-ups.
The catfish are biting in the evenings, and there are still some carp leftover from last weekend’s tournament, so bottom rigs and bowfishing are options as well.

Have a great weekend! We look forward to seeing some nice catches!
