Lake Elevation: 1740
Surface water temp : 60 - 66 degrees
Fish Plants: Rainbow trout, 2,400 pounds April 5th.
Lake Hours: 6:45 am - 6:00 pm.
Weather: Temperatures have been in the 70's. There were some high winds in the afternoon on Tuesday resulting in a lake closure.
Bass: There have been no complaints from anglers as bass fishing has remained exceptional at DVL. Most successful anglers have been pounding the shore lines in the 5- 20 foot range with Senkos, Ikas, brush hogs, and lizards using Texas or dropshot rig. Most anglers focusing on the beds have found that gravely and sandy areas have been ideal spots to find the spawning fish. There has been some big fish caught on swim baits at 20 ??? 30 feet. Most bass have been up on beds in the backs of coves. Rawson cove has been the most reported bass cove this week, with the third cove of the shore line fishing area, the north corner of the east dam and around the saddle dam also producing well. Shoreline anglers have had consistent catches, but with less success than the boat anglers. ??The largest bass of the week was caught by Jason Blauvelt of Peoria Arizona. He got the 10.44 pound fatty in 6 feet of water on a tube jig. He was fishing in Rawson Cove.
Trout: Trout fishing has been holding steady this week. Shoreline and boat anglers have been getting limits with Kastmasters, Power Bait and Roostertails being the top baits. The marina has been the top spot for stockers. Holdovers have made appearances on the west dam, east dam, south shoreline, and near restroom 2. Most trout have been pulled from 10- 20 feet either by trolling crank baits or drifting night crawlers. John Thompson of Huntington Beach got a 7.79 pound trout fishing on the east dam at 12 feet. Kenneth Jacobs of Moreno Valley got a 10 pound limit in the third cove of shoreline using night crawlers. Jesse Dinkins of Hemet released 8 fish around all 3 pounds each. He was trolling the west dam in 50 feet of water. All the fish were caught at 25 feet on a size 1 silver bikini Needlefish. Jose Palafox of San Diego got the biggest trout of the week weighing 10.31 pounds. He was fishing with Powerbait from shore.
