Big Bear Marina is now open for the 2009 season. Public launching is now available.. Quagga/Zebra Mussel Inspections will be required of all vessels entering Big Bear Lake.
With limited access to the lake the season started off with light fishing pressure and information. Shore fishing dominated the scene this week as the pink meat holdovers showed along the shoreline on PowerBait and nightcrawlers. To get in on the early spring fishing, use a sliding egg sinker above a swivel with PowerBait on a #14 treble hook and/or a nightcrawler on a #6 bait holder hook fished off the bottom. Adding Trout Dip to the nightcrawler will improve your chances. Be sure to vary your leader length from 1 to 4 feet, until you find the zone where the trout are feeding.
With the water temperature at 45 degrees largemouth bass are starting to show on plastics in the shallows. The trout are spawning up the creeks and anglers are reminded that you can not target these fish in the creeks and only in the lake where the current stops flowing from the creek.
Big Bear Marina is proud to announce that we are a Berkley Pro Shop! We will have a full line of Pure Fishing Products that includes Berkley, Pflueger, All Star, Stren, Penn, Abu Garcia, Spiderwire, Fenwick, Mitchell, Shakespeare and all of the PowerBait and Gulp Alive baits.
Big Bear Lake has a new trout tournament this year. "Fishin' for $50K" will be held 5/30/09-5/31/09. The event is sponsored by The Big Bear Lake Resort Association, Berkley, Rapala, Luhr-Jensen, Flambeau, all of the marinas on the lake, Big Bear Marina, Holloways, Pleasure Point, Pine Knot Landing, Capt. John's Marina and The Big Bear Municipal Water District. Information and registration is available at www.bigbear.com or 1-800-4-BIGBEAR.
Big Bear Marina is the Official Weigh Station on Big Bear Lake! Bring your trophy catches in and be eligible for monthly Berkley Pro Shop prizes! Stop by and have your picture and catch reported to the fishing media throughout Southern California.
Dan Vantine of Big Bear City caught this Big Bear Snow Bow back in December just after our largest snow fall of the winter. The 10.2 lb. bow hit a ball of PowerBait off the North Shore. With no gloves and a short net Dan waded into the frigid water to finally land the fish after a half hour fight.
