A small select group of Outdoor Writers was invited in to Irvine Lake today [Thursday] for a "sneak peek" at the trout fishing that will be open to the public tomorrow [Friday October 31].

"It's been wide open for the writers" reported Jimmy Getty at the Pro Shop. "All along the west shore was very good, along with Sierra Cove. The grade is excellent, with most of the trout running in the 2 to 3 pound class, with some larger ones mixed in. Some fish were caught trolling Rapalas, but the best bet has been the Power Mouse using white and chartreuse colors, or a dropshot-rigged Berkley Power Trout Worm in chartreuse, orange, red, or almost any color in about 10 feet of water."

Irvine Lake will be open to the public starting Friday October 31, with the Pro Shop and snack bar opening at 5:30 AM, and fishing commencing at 6:00 AM. The lake has been closed since Sunday, and some 20,000 pounds of trout have been planted, with the writers bagging only a few dozen in total.

Due to a pump malfunction, the Kids Lagoon will remain closed for a few weeks. The main lake will be open 7 days a week from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM for the duration of the winter season. Thousands of pounds of trout will be stocked weekly. Call the Pro Shop at 714-649-9111 for more information. ??????
