The bite has been very good for both catfish and tilapia at Corona Lake, according to lake manager Jim Davis, who simply said the action was "red hot" during the new moon this past week.

He said the best catfish action has been around the flooded trees and along the edges of the weed beds that have developed in the lake. Mackerel, shimp, and nightcrawlers, have all been good baits, and J.D.'s Mackerel in shrimp and anchovy has been very good.

Top catfish reported this past week were a pair of 8 1/2 pounders. One was landed by Bryan Engen, Corona, while fishing mackerel near the boat dock, while Bryan and Col Robbissi, also Corona, had an 8 1/2-pounder was part of their 10-fish stringer that weighed in at 28 pounds. They were fishing mackerel from shore.

The south end of the lake has been the best bet for the tilapia, which are running up to three pounds now. There have also been a decent number of bass and bluegill showing up for anglers fishing nightcrawlers for the tilapia. Catfish are planted each week all summer long and cats over five pounds are a part of each week's plant. In alternating weeks, carp and tilapia re also components of the weekly stocks.

Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these $20 passes has a five-fish limit. The popular 24-hour fishing passes are now offered every Friday and Saturday night. These passes have a 15-fish limit and cost $60. The family special, where mom and up to three kids 12 or under can help dad catch his limit, will apply on these all-night passes.
