The trout fishing was very good at Corona Lake again this week with lots of fish over the eight pound mark reported and an 18-pounder at the top of the list. The catfish bite is also starting to pick up as well.
Alfredo Campozano, Ontario, caught the top trout at 18-0 on chartreuse Nitro Bait fishing from boat. Steve Schmidt, Ontario, caught a 10-8 rainbow on a nightcrawler fishing from boat. Ryder Mayerchic, Valley Center, caught a 10-0 trout. Jeff Wampler, West Minster, caught a 9-8 trout. Brian Sig, Covina, caught a 9-0 rainbow.
Corona Lake, and sister water Santa Ana River Lakes, will be holding a Tagged Trout Poker Tournament starting this Thursday and running through April 19. During the event hundreds of tagged trout will be planted and each will have a card value. There will be daily winners -- $55 worth of Eagle Claw fishing tackle -- for the angler who catches the best poker "hand" at both lakes. Then on Sunday April 20, there will be a drawing for cash prizes up to $500 among all anglers who caught tagged trout at both waters. Each tag will be an entry in this drawing. In addition, the angler who caught the highest daily "hand" in the tournament will win $1,000.
Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these $20 passes has a five-fish limit. The popular 24-hour fishing passes are offered on Friday and Saturday nights on the weekend nearest the full moon for the rest of trout season. These passes have a 15-fish limit and cost $60. The family special, where mom and up to three kids 12 or under can help dad catch his limit, will apply on these all-night passes. Santa Ana River LakesHuge 22 3/4-pound rainbow top trout in hot bite at Santa Ana River Lakes Lake manager Jim Davis said the rainbow trout action at Santa Ana River Lakes over the past week could best be described with two words: "Wide open." And then as if to prove his thesis, he went out and caught a 22-pound rainbow trout himself on Saturday fishing near the boat dock. But Davis' fish wasn't the biggest of the week at SARL. That honor goes to Barry...... Read More
Corona Lake Fish Report 03-03-20080
Corona LakeNice weather brings out an angler crunch at Corona Lake Fishing pressure skyrocketed at Corona Lake this past week with the nicer weather, but the trout bite remained good for boat and float-tube anglers while the shore anglers had a little tougher time of it. That pressure might also have put the big fish down, but there were still a few quality rainbows landed and some very good stringers of smaller rainbows and Lightning Trout. Top trout was a 14-pounder caught by Dominic...... Read More
