Despite the weather, Corona Lake continues to have good trout action
Fishing at Corona Lake is very good despite the nasty weekend weather, with Lightning Trout showing in very good numbers and hitting almost every bait or lure thrown their way. This week even had some nice catfish and carp in the catch as well.
The best trout action has been on floating baits or inflated nightcrawlers doused with scent and fished on a short leader.
Top trout this week was a 19-0 caught by Dwayne Castagna, Chatsworth, who landed the bruiser on orange Power Bait at the dam. Benny Magneson, Riverside, caught a 12-4 rainbow at the dam. Justin Gordon, Perris, caught a stringer of trout totaling 17-0 with an 8-0 topping the catch.
Some catfish were showing in the south end of the lake this past week on mackerel and shrimp. Fred and Marquis Murray, Riverside, teamed up to catch two nice catfish at 14-8 and 11-8 on mackerel.
Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these $20 passes has a five-fish limit. The popular 24-hour fishing passes are offered on Friday and Saturday nights on the weekend nearest the full moon for the rest of trout season. These passes have a 15-fish limit and cost $60. The family special, where mom and up to three kids 12 or under can help dad catch his limit, will apply on these all-night passes.
