Lots of quality trout taken at Corona Lake over past week
The trout bite picked up this week at Corona Lake with lots of big fish showing. Lightning Trout are also slated to be planted this week and will be planted through the rest of the month.
The best trout action has been on floating baits or inflated nightcrawlers doused with scent and fished on a short leader.
Top catch this past week was a 22-pound trout landed by Ralph Lopez, Mira Loma, on a nightcrawler fishing near the dam. Steve Duenas, Elsinore, caught a 14-8 trout at the dam. Armando Fuentes, San Dimas, caught five trout totaling 31 pounds with a 13-8 topping his catch. Sal Montoya, Corona, caught an 11-8 trout. Junior Mendoza, Calimesa, caught a 12-8 rainbow on chartreuse Nitro Bait fishing near the dam. James Camacho, Riverside, landed an 11-8 trout.
Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these $20 passes has a five-fish limit. The popular 24-hour fishing passes are offered on Friday and Saturday nights on the weekend nearest the full moon for the rest of trout season (this weekend, Feb. 15-17 this month with night fishing also allowed Sunday because of the Monday holiday). These passes have a 15-fish limit and cost $60. The family special, where mom and up to three kids 12 or under can help dad catch his limit, will apply on these all-night passes.
