Six more rainbows over 10 pounds caught in good bite at Corona Lake
The rainbow trout action has continued good at Corona Lake over the past week, and there were another six fish over the 10-pound mark landed. The big fish was a 14-pounder landed by Ron Hoyle, Lake Elsinore, at the dam. A 12 1/2-pounder was landed by Fernando Venezuela, Arcadia, and a 12 1/4-pound rainbow was caught by Daniel Hernandez, Carson. Steve Scharden, Menton, caught an 11 3/4-pounder.
Top baits continue to be chartreuse Nitro Bait with Nitro Grease or inflated nightcrawlers with garlic-flavored Nitro Gravy. The best stringers are still coming for boat anglers fishing the deeper mid-lake spots or near the dam.
Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these $20 passes has a five-fish limit. The popular 24-hour fishing passes are offered on Friday and Saturday nights on the weekend nearest the full moon for the rest of trout season. There will be a bonus night fishing day this month because of the Martin Luther King Monday holiday. Anglers can buy the 24-hour passes Friday, Saturday and Sunday this week. These passes have a 15-fish limit and cost $60. The family special, where mom and up to three kids 12 or under can help dad catch his limit, will apply on these all-night passes. Santa Ana River Lakes Fish Report 01-15-2008
Santa Ana River LakesTwo huge rainbow trout estimated to weigh 30 to 31 pounds each were planted in Santa Ana River Lakes early late on the evening of Dec. 23. The fish both would topple the lake and state record of 28.1 pounds caught at SARL in 2005. The big rainbows have both probably been hooked by anglers, and by the stories circulating at SARL, they've both been hooked several times. It's landing one of the bruisers that has become problematic. Anglers have learned...... Read More
