While we wait for the first trout plant of the year, it’s a good time to get your fix of catfish and bass. Fishermen targeting those cats continue to have similar success from both the shore and by boat. Garlic soaked mackerel and live worms are essential baits to use for these 1-31 channel catfish. The bass bite got a little more exciting this week when a 4lb largemouth was pulled up in Cachuma Bay. Having a boat allows anglers to easily hit all of the best bass spots in a day, though a few shore fishermen hooked up on some nice smallies off the point of Mohawk Bay with spinners and shad imitations.
