This week we experienced more tough weather day's than anything as the Santa Ana winds shut down fishing for the first part of the week. The air temperatures also took a dip and while not fishing everyone wondered how this would affect the fishing. We got back to work on Thursday and fears of the Yellowtail vanishing were quickly gone as the outer island boats loaded up. Not missing a beat, boats like the Mirage and Ranger 85 not only had big scores of Yellowtail up to 35 pounds but the bottom fishing for Lingcod, Sheephead and Whitefish were full speed. On the local scene boats started out a bit slower looking for Yellows but toward the end of the weekend they found schools that wanted to bite. Luckily the bottom fishing at the local islands has been solid. Ray Labo is a local angler that fishes regularly on the Gentleman. He capped the week nicely by catching another jackpot Lingcod that won the pot easily weighing in at a cool 20 pounds.
