Lake Elevation: 1712.80 and dropping
Surface water temp: 61 - 65 degrees
Fish Plants: 2,500 pounds of Mt. Lassen rainbow trout will be planted December 6th.
Lake Hours: 6:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Weather:Temperatures have been in the 50's with stormy conditions present late in the week. As a general rule, Santa Ana winds do not negatively affect the lake.
Bass: Swimbaits the best approach for bass at DVL. Z -Plugs, California Swimbabes, Spro BBZ, and Huddlestons were the most reported lures with most of those catches occurring within the first 15 feet of water. Ice jig reports were still effective for fishing as deep as 60 feet. Drop shotting or Carolina rigging plastics 45 ??? 60 feet down was a mainstay for finesse fisherman. The east dam, the west dam, shore line fishing, and the point to the left of the marina were the most reported lake locales for those looking for bass. Eric Cole of Huntington Beach got his two biggest bass at 6.10 and 9.10 pounds. both hogs attacked a Casitas swimbait near the east dam. Chad Stern and Shawn Cooley of Quail Valley got three fish for 16.73 pounds all caught on Cool Trout swimbaits.
Trout: ???? Trout stocks helped keep anglers' lines tight this week. Trout were biting from 10-25 feet near the marina mainly along the shoreline fishing area as well as the east dam, but holdover trout have been few. Kastmasters, mini jigs, Power Worms, and nightcrawlers all bamboozled the DVL trout. Shore fisherman Jim Mehan, of Winchester can't get enough of DVL, returning for a third week in a row to get a 5 fish limit weighing 12 pounds. He grabbed his limit on nightcrawlers fished 10 feet down. There was one holdover reported this week. Sheldon Johnson of Hemet got this 5.48 pound DVL football in the marina using a Rapala.
Striper: ??Set your drags loose! Striper have been peeling line for shore anglers as well as boaters. Trout swim baits, Plugs or large topwater baits were the most reported lures for striper. Fishing points near the marina or on the inlet remain proven spots for boaters. Ted reed of Chino Hills got a 16.5 pound striper fishing the marina with a Zplug. John Coburn of Murrieta got an 11.87 pound striper fishing from shore with a floating MC Slammer swimbait. Roy Young of Murrieta got a 14.55 pound striper fishing with a nightcrawler at 30 feet.
Catfish:????There was still a lingering catfish bite this week.??Great spots for catfish are the third cove of shoreline fishing, and near the east dam or wave attenuator. The most effective baits included anchovies, mackerel, and raw shrimp. Most catfish have been found on the bottom in 25 - 50 feet.??Vernon Smith Jr. of Moreno Valley got a 4.55 pound catfish using mackerel at 40 feet on the east dam.
Panfish: There is still a panfish bite at DVL and most anglers have the best luck fishing along the dams, specifically near the stairways. The panfish have recessed from the banks in recent weeks. Anglers have found that fishing 20 -30 feet off the dams using live worm dropped to 25 feet has been a consistent method.
