Laguna Niguel Lake - Laguna Nigel, CA
Lake Information
| Fish Species: | Channel Catfish, Rainbow Trout |
Laguna Niguel Lake is a 44-acre public reservoir situated within Laguna Niguel Regional Park in Orange County. Managed by OC Parks, it offers consistent seasonal fishing for rainbow trout and channel catfish, in addition to supporting catch-and-release fishing for resident largemouth bass and panfish species.
From November through March, the lake is regularly stocked with rainbow trout by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Productive trout baits include PowerBait, nightcrawlers, and salmon eggs, as well as small spinners and spoons. Fishing is best in the first few days after a stocking event, particularly during early morning and dusk hours. The dam area and points near the aerator are considered prime spots.
During the summer, the lake is stocked with channel catfish that are easily targeted with cut baits, liver, and dough baits. Evening hours offer the highest success rates. Bluegill and redear sunfish provide year-round action in shallow zones on light tackle. Largemouth bass, while not stocked, are well-established and can be caught using plastic worms and jigs along structure and vegetation. All bass fishing is strictly catch-and-release.
Fishing is permitted from shore and designated fishing piers. Pedal boats are available for rent seasonally. OC Parks charges a parking fee, and a California fishing license is required for anyone 16 and older. With its managed stocking program and family-oriented amenities, Laguna Niguel Lake remains a top-tier urban fishing destination in Southern California.
