Pelican Lake

Lake Information

Fish Species: Striped Bass, Channel Catfish, Rainbow Trout, Largemouth Bass, Black Crappie, Common Carp, Bluegill, Redear Sunfish, White Crappie
Pelican Lake, situated within the Mojave Narrows Regional Park system, is a small yet productive public fishery offering seasonal angling for rainbow trout, channel catfish, and warmwater species. The lake is regularly stocked by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, with trout stocked from late fall through spring and catfish during the summer months.

Trout fishing is most productive following stockings and is best with PowerBait, nightcrawlers, and small spinners. Channel catfish are targeted in summer evenings using cut bait, liver, and commercial stink baits. Sunfish species such as bluegill and redear provide consistent action for youth anglers, particularly near shoreline vegetation. Largemouth bass are present in limited numbers and respond to plastics and spinnerbaits near submerged structure.

Shore fishing is the only method permitted—boating is not allowed. The lake includes well-maintained piers, restrooms, shaded picnic areas, and paths for easy access. Anglers aged 16 and older must possess a valid California fishing license, and the park charges a modest day-use fee.

Pelican Lake is ideally suited for beginners, families, and local anglers seeking an easy, year-round fishery in the High Desert. With reliable stocking, clean facilities, and accessible shoreline, it remains a dependable destination for casual freshwater fishing.
