Truxtun Lake - Bakersfield, CA
Lake Information
| Fish Species: | Rainbow Trout, Largemouth Bass |
Truxtun Lake, located in central Bakersfield near the Kern River Parkway Trail, is a well-maintained 28-acre urban lake offering productive year-round fishing for a variety of species. It is especially popular for its regular stocking of rainbow trout and catfish, making it an ideal destination for family-friendly and beginner anglers.
From November through March, the lake is stocked with rainbow trout by CDFW. Anglers commonly use PowerBait, nightcrawlers, and small spinners along the east bank and near the fishing dock. Trout are most active during cooler morning and evening hours and are typically caught in the first few days following a stocking event.
In warmer months, channel catfish are stocked periodically. Anglers target them using chicken liver, cut bait, or stink baits fished near the bottom. The bite is best in early morning and after sunset. The lake also supports resident populations of largemouth bass and bluegill, which provide spring and summer action using soft plastics, worms, or small jigs.
There is no boating allowed, but the lake features ample shoreline access, trails, restrooms, and picnic areas. Truxtun Lake remains one of Bakersfield’s most dependable and accessible public fisheries, offering consistent seasonal action and a clean, family-friendly atmosphere.
