Crazy weather dominated the afternoons this week including thunder, lightning, rain and even some bouts of hail. No doubt the weather accounted for much less fishing pressure than we're used to seeing during mid-August. Those that did brave the weather found some very good fishing. No big fish were landed this week - all we got were fish stories about "the one that got away".

The bait 'n wait folks did the best near the dam and from the shoreline adjacent to the boat launch. The fish in the main body of the lake were very spread out this week, in fact the only area that was holding a high concentration of fish was back by the island and in the channel east of the island where the fish were super stacked up. The water in the channel is anywhere from 4ft to 12ft deep and the fish were schooled up moving in and out of the area from the main lake.

The mini-jig bite slowed down this week but those who prefer to throw plastics found the fish eagerly attacking trout worms fished on a size 8 mosquito hook with a size 3/0 or 7 split shot 18" to 24" above the worm. Berkley powerworms in bubblegum and Sierra Slammer worms in pink sparkle and florescent orange were the best colors of the week.

Not much word on the trolling bite this week as just about everyone was fishing baits, plastics or casting & retrieving lures.

The boat launch at South Lake is closed for the season - unless you can carry your boat from the end of the public launch down to the water, it is suggested that private boaters head over at Lake Sabrina.
