Last weekend's weather issues are a thing of the past, as Irvine Lake anglers have experienced nearly perfect weather conditions for the past few days, reported Daniela Gavaldon at the Pro Shop. "Its [the weather] been absolutely beautiful", observed Gavaldon. "The troll bite has been on fire today [Wednesday]; they are catching them all over the place!" Most of the trout are quality-grade rainbows averaging about 2 to 3 pounds. A nice mixture of brown trout to 5 pounds, and rainbows over 4 pounds is keeping things interesting, and a few steelhead are also starting to show.

Trollers scored using a variety of lures, including firetiger-color Rapala Countdown CD03's, pink SC Shiners, firetiger-color Berkley Flicker Shad 04's, and red/chartreuse Rapala Ultra-Light Shad ULS04's. Best trolling locations were the west shoreline and mid-lake.

Bait dunkers did best with 12 to 18-inch leaders and various colors of Power Bait, with a strong garlic scent like Bite-On added being a major advantage. Best spots for bait were Woody's Cove, Trout Island, and Santiago Flats.

Only a handful of bass anglers ventured out, and they were rewarded with a moderate number of 2 to 4-pound largemouth. Productive techniques included dropshot rigged plastics, jigs, and crankbaits at 15 to 30 feet at the Red Clay Cliffs and Rocky Point. Families with children age 12 and under found slow action in the Kids Lagoon, but the Lagoon will be restocked this week.

Getty added, "Our upcoming Bite-On Tournament on Dec. 3 will also include...... Read More
