We did see a drop in limit-style fishing this week - some blamed the full moon, some blamed the post-frontal conditions, but there were still plenty of anglers doing well - including myself. The fish were there, in fact I saw schools of 15 to 20 fish cruising around, but they were definitely a little harder to entice this week than last. The Rock Slide was a bit on the slow side this week but the average size was definitely better than most of the other spots on the lake.
Lots of big fish were spotted at the Gilbert Glacier inlet this week but unlike last week, the bigguns were playing hard to get. Quite a few trout were moving in and out of the inlets and you can really tell that the fish are in transition from summer to fall. Some nice fish caught on deep casts at the inlets this week as opposed to casting right up into the moving water. On the plastics front, Pink Gulp worms, Grasshopper Jigs with a red Powerworm trailer and rainbow sparkle Atomic Tubes produced well. Parchers Resort GM Jared Smith caught a gorgeous 5lb 3oz 'bow at Buck Tucker cove just south of the Rock Slide on the west shore using one of those atomic tubes.
Another healthy stocking of DFG fish came on Wednesday this week so the bite near the boat launch and on either side of the dam was very steady, especially on the hardware like Thomas Bouyants, Kastmasters and spinners. Only a handful of trolling reports this week - most of them were doing well on any Thomas Bouyant, Olive Wooly buggers and Frog Pattern Needlefish. Private boaters with electronics reported loads of fish stacked up at 40ft in between Boiler Cove and the Rock Slide.
