Finally, South Lake is totally ice free and we have docks in the water! The water level at South is still way below capacity and we expect it to remain that way for most of the season. Although the water has been rising 6-12" a day over the past week, we expect this to cease once June arrives. The latest word we have from Southern California Edison is that the lake level will not reach the boat launch this season so it looks like private boaters are out of luck in 2007. On Saturday May 19th, South Lake staffers launched the boat docks in what proved to be a rather entertaining display. One by one, our eleven 10ft x 5ft dock segments were launched down a crudely built wooden ramp. The segments built up quite a bit of speed during the 50ft decline and they made a BIG splash when they hit the water! Some folks out in rental boats could be heard cheering as each one hit the water. We expect to have our full fleet of 14' fishing boats in the water for Memorial Day weekend. We will not be launching our Pontoons until mid-June.
